Saw films

right when I get back after Christmas I'm hoping to get together a Saw feeling photo shoot take the ideas for the film and make up my own ideas but also having a bit of help from this film like using a doll having crazy traps set up on people safe ones though there will be no harming in my photography :P I know its a bit over the top but I going to try hard and get something out of it even if I do not like the images themselves practice makes perfect and I can always re-shoot if that I the case as I can keep everything I want this shoot to be more creepy than horror to give it what's going on look like it being a trailer keep the images a tease like using limbs only seeing half of what's actually happening maybe later on when I have a bit more experience make a few short films to go with different parts of my work to get short film for every aspect. Whilst being at home I'm going to look for some locations to see what kind of places I could set up, but with home being so far away I would have to invest the time if I did find a place that I liked and do the shoot for a long weekend I'm also going to be looking around Preston to see if I can find any abandoned places that may work here are a few examples that I want to try working on from the film

Repo! the genetic opera

I don't know why I didn't add this film in ages ago what an amazing film if you love the saw films and musicals this is one of those films and it has an all star cast including my favourite Anthony Head best know for playing his role in Buffy the vampire slayer as Giles! so everything about this film in my eyes is amazing just one little glitch they have is the fact they allowed Paris Hilton in this film that was an epic Fail having her in it in my eyes but for that little glitch on an amazing film who am I complaining about it. so this film is based in the near future and man does it have a lot of gore well its made from the same guys who made Saw but that the best thing about it, I am so going to base one of my shoots on the Repo man, so the Repo man is hired to reposes peoples organs if they are not paying its gory but there is such a big story behind it its hard to explain. this film isn't well known as it never went to the cinema even though I waited for it to come to the cinema the funding was cut so it was only shown in some places in the United States. Give it a watch it is amazing all the constructed scenes the lighting costume designs and the AMAZING  story! this film was originally a on set play. here is a link to a trailer and also one of my favourite scenes. I wish I could put the whole film up but its not possible :P

Stephen Eastwood

I was looking for some portrait photographer that would inspire me in how to make the shoot a fashion one as well this guy has some amazing stuff that is just so simple like using netting on the face putting paint on the face the simple but really effective make up that will basically take around 20 mins to do. here is a sample of his work

Michael Williams

Just found this site with photographer Michael Williams I was just looking for different way of having someone pose but in everyday in and I came across Michael himself working with famous people and also in everyday life scenery. its really interesting the way that he has the model in these images just placed in houses on the street not used in any studio in any of his picture for which I can gather.

Alternative processes

I'm a big fan of the alternative processes because it all the work behind it being able to say I did the process from start to finished and spent hours getting the image right. Well next semester I want to be working in this again as I haven't been able to do it this semester I want to work on medium format and also 35mm in the studio to get the grainy look to set off some of my horror theme but also have a digital camera to get the same images just in case there is a problem with my negs because it really it hurts when you do all that work to find out the images haven't come out, that's a big problem but always having the digital images as a back up is the best thing I think . yeah so working in the darkroom I want to learn more from Andy and get him to do so tutorials on how to get different effects in my work, ahaha I'm going have to bribe him for the day get a few people together so we can get a lecture on it, I have seen some of his work and I would love to get the same effect he has in some of his images to be the same style in some of my pictures to give it an extra touch of uniqueness.

photo shoot with faye

So I have got some of the images from the shoot that I help out with Faye she wanted to get a bit of a fashion style images it was really good working with her as I haven't really worked on a black background so setting up the lights in the right place had me going for a while but at the same time the camera had been playing up it said it was on ISO 100 but it turns out it was lying to us it was actually on ISO 1400 so she kept getting grainy images but we could get the images on the black background but not on the white. so we improvised but we know what has happened so she has know shorted out her camera for the next time she does a shoot it goes to show sometimes the tool of the trade likes to have an off day as well. here are a few images from Faye's shoot :)

assisting on shoot with michelle

right so a couple of weeks ago I help michelle assisting and modeling for her shoot it was a really good time as we had to guess what f stops we needed as she hadn't booked a light meter so we did need to mess about for a while getting the lighting and the camera at the right place we where there for a few hours just playing with the light to see what different effects we could get from them. I learnt it takes a bit longer to figure out the setting of the camera and lights. I don't actually have any images from that night but if I can get them from Michelle I will post them up :)

August Bradley

just found this website August Bradley Media where they have a team of content creators comprised of cinematographers, art directors, post-production specialists and many other people. August Bradley started his work in advertising and conceptual art photography he has had numerous graphis golds award here is a few of his images

I really like the way that all of these images have been set up the constructed scenes all of them being really gritty but there is always an element that stand out in the image because of this I really like the way the image with the bird cage has been put together as you could have it looking really horror like as well

35 breathtaking Horror and macabre photography

just pondering about on the internet when I came over this site showing 35 images of horror and macabre photography. this site has found some amazing photographs which I would love to try out next semester :) there are so complicated images so I'm going to get my photoshop skills better over the next couple of weeks and improve on them :)
http://www.kitaro10.com/artwork/photography-artwork/35-breathtaking-horror-macabre-photography/

Amanda Norman

I just found this blog by Amanda Norman its full of interesting macabre photographers that she has found and also her own ideas work and link to other peoples work  here is a link I'm going to start following it and keep up with what she is doing and what inspires her. she has also got the same thing as I have my blog watching a film and getting ideas where as with mine also I watch the films before bed and see how I react
http://blog.amandanorman.com/

video inspiration

right so I have been looking a lot at Erwin Olaf so I decided to look at the mini films that he has done I found this one to be really strange but at the same time aesthetically pleasing. the end is where I really enjoy the film as we see what he thinks what happens in the 2019 with what he thinks people are going to look like with all this cosmetic surgery, for some reason this video reminds me of Desperate Housewife like how classically dress up these women are but at the same time I this funny feeling that they might be having an affair as in some of the video you will see the woman touch the other woman on the bum for a few seconds like there is sexual tension between them. The music behind it gives it a child like feeling a sense of innocents. this gives it different essences between innocent but also being a fiend I want to say like there is a good and bad, in both way in this video the whole idea of cosmetic surgery and having an affair being seedy and then how clean and the music in the video to give it a child like essence. So I'm going to see if I can find any more of his short films and post them up but it was difficult to find this video, please enjoy it :)

Stencil photography

So the photo shoot I did the other day went really well even if there was a few hiccups like stores being closed to pick up the key light-meter and colour gels but we got let in by Darren so we got my shoot started put the make up on got the white background down and basically had to use trial and error to get the lighting and the camera set up right but it was only like this for a few minutes as I got it all shorted out quite quickly. so here are so of my images :P
right so here is a selection of the images that I edited the other day I really like the way that some of them have turned out  so with the ones that I found stood out I put into a landscape style and to have all 4 images together like this so as you can see its one panoramic image from the 4 best images I have to be honest out of these four the one that catches my eye the most is the third one I just like how bold it is the way it keeps your eye on it, but I find it interesting to have them all together as well  you could display these as individuals.

Pet sematary

last nights film as I said last night was pet sematary, as I said I was stressed about my presentation today so I also think that had something to do with my sleeping pattern but last night was crazy up and down all night scary images in my head but I really enjoyed the film the 80s style made me think wow that we have come along way since then but the film is still amazing, here is a trailer to the film its a much watch for all horror fans :)

Todays photo shoot :)

right well I have been going through my photos and im really happy with the way that some of them have turned out I'm going to start editing them tonight and hopefully get them up in the next couple of hours or sometime tomorrow :)

creeped and stressed out!

right I'm doing work while watching Pet Sematary and it is creeping me out but so far the film is pretty good I'm a massive Steven King fan I have read most of his book. By the way the shinning most scariest book I have read creeps me out even thinking about it, I'm sure its going to be a long night trying to sleep after watching this film, also at the same time I have been shorting myself out with a photo shoot tomorrow and also a presentation in the morning aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh but I'm really looking forward to it as I'm going to be doing a shoot that I wanted to do from the start of term the ranking one with the cut out pieces with the eyes done up and sometimes lips showing

the fourth kind

the movie on the agenda was the fourth kind last night this one was based on actual event and even some of the original footage on the  film which was quite shocking to see and it makes you wonder what is actually out there the story was based on a psychologist hypnotising client to see what was going on as most of them where having bad sleeping patterns saying they are seeing things whilst under they all spoke about an owl it was all alien based and I found this film really interesting. My sleeping pattern was crazy last night I was up and down most of the night and quite a few odd dreams yet again I cannot remember what they where.
trailer below :) and I'm going load a feature that was on the dvd that I found interesting I found it on you tube as well its called paranormal theories based on the film

using easy photoshop

right so I'm not the best at photoshop so I have gone onto this website where I gave it out tutorial on basic things. http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/hand-tint/ I am really happy with the out come and I have used it on one of my 1950s style photoshoot so here it is :)

Before

After
I wanted to give it an old looking feel which I like but I still prefer the original but I think its will be a nice  effect on other images in the future to give it that grainy effect, but also an added bit of colour I am going to try it out on a landscape image and see how it looks on that.

original version

edited version

in this edited version we can see it has softened the image which gives out the old fashion feeling that this tutorial was meant to so I am really happy with out come of the landscape image compared to the 1950s shot where I find it to be to harsh on her, like I said  I did like it on the 1950s one but I find it to much where as in the original version its much warmer which is what I prefer for that shoot but I thought I would try out the tutorial to see what it looked like :)

Rob Zombie!

mwahahaha right I was looking through my music and a Rob Zombie song came on must I say much more in how amazing he is! well if you have never heard about him before the clue is in the title :p Rob Zombie the reason why I am adding him into my blog, as we where introduced into using DSLRS into video making. I thought this short genre of film making  would really interest me to actually make a short film based around the same Gothic horror based films he make. The reason why I have chosen Rob is the way that he always has a part  to do with the music videos and because he also makes his own films the stuff he produces are masterpieces in my eyes because of the details that he has in his work  :) here is a few videos to show you what I mean about the bands music videos. In every aspect of these videos I wish I could just take photos as these videos as so visually pleasing in a horror perspective. So hope fully next semester I will have a mini film to work on including my photographs. I'm going to keep an up date of his stuff as well like watching his films as they are really gory and he always has brilliant perspective for all the videos and films he produces. I would defiantly ask you to watch living dead girl the original version of the video and  the return of the phantom stranger as there is so much work that has go into these videos and the most dark out of them all but there is also a lot of humour in Dragula :)

The original video of living dead girl

the remix of living dead girl

pathology

right the film last night was pathology I thought it was going to be a lot more twisted at first because I assumed that it was a horror turns out it was more of a thriller based film based on a morgue and trying to find out the way that people who died but there is a twist as the attending Doctors where actually killing there victims, one by one each doctor would kill someone and the others would guess what they had done to the victims, its is quite mind twisting toward the end, when it ended it really didn't bother me so sleeping time well I must say it was a while before I actually fell to asleep but during the sleep I was stressing so the film must of had some sort of effect on me as there was a lot of gory scene but I think I may start watching more of the classics that I know are so much better, I wouldn't say that this is a bad film just not the style I want to be getting into. so yeah the film did effect me during the night as I was tossing and turning and didn't really get into a deep sleep until 6am this morning, I really have not a clue why I stressed out as I didn't really find the film that scary.

Quarantine

this is the second film I have watched before going to bed and this film must of  had some short of reaction to it was most of the night I was tossing and turning and whilst I was asleep I did get some really graphic images stuck into my head from the film and from other films it like sparked off a light in my head I saw the girl from the exorcist, some gremlins ( I know not scary but it was when I was a child) I couldn't really tell you what actually happened in my dream but it was defiantly scared me as the first thing I did was put the TV on to get some light without having to get out of bed. So the film is about a reporter working on her next update for the news press on the fire-fighters when they where called out to a building where so of the tenants had reported a woman from the building screaming but when they got there something fishy was going on as the woman had foam coming from her mouth then attacked one of the police offerers I kind of guessed that it had to do with the rabies which it had and the plot thickens as they are also cut off from the outside world as they knew what was going on as a dog had been taken to the vets and had been acting bizare and attacking other animal who all went the same way so the authorizes locked them all in so nobody could escape but did they make it out alive well I think you are better of watching it your self as it is a really classic remake of the film REC I will be watching the original one once I find it so then I can see which one is the most horrific :P
here is the trailer

Deviant Art photographers

So I went looking for other photographers who use macabre photography so here are some images I have found, there wasn't much information on the photographers that I looked at so I will put there screen name and link to there DA account.

this one is by NikytaGaia title intercepter

the composition and the sheer terror in the look of this photograph is amazing or she may be enjoying the whole concept of the scene like she is the one inflicting the wrath of pain, every time I see this image it reminds me of a vampire films like Van Helsing, Underworld or episodes from Buffy the Vampire slayer, Doctor who, charmed and more than likely over films and TV series. link to her DA profile :)
http://nikytagaia.deviantart.com/

mumbojumbo89 title: zombie

I really like the concept of this image using a young girl as a zombie, the whole simple idea of the makeup and and it just being a head shot is something I would like to try out with my work.
link to DA account: http://mumbojumbo89.deviantart.com/

artirriant title ZOMBIFEED

How freaky is this I randomly came over it and thought brilliant way of not using a model whole this could be just anyone that is sat with you and I think most of it is photoshoped but I just cant help but look at it. It reminds me of the saw films.

the Reaping

My Film that I watched last was the reaping based on a 13 year old girl who was going to be possessed by the Devil by the towns people. with watching this film I found it interesting but there was something actually lacking like the whole things jumping out at you where as this film only had one scene that mad me jump because the girl jumped out of the bushes, the whole concept of the film is based on religion and the different plagues I like the concept but this film is one that I don't think I will re watch when until some asks to watch it. So I watched this film before going to bed which I what I'm going to be doing for the rest of the time to see how I react in my sleep e.g. how hard I found it falling asleep or disturbed sleeping pattern (waking up in the middle of the night) stressing in my sleep and of course nightmares :( I want this to be apart of my research as I find it to be interesting how I react will it be the same reactions when I was a young teenager watching these films. with this film I had no effect on me sleep wise fell flat out asleep once it had finished and woke up at 7:45am with it being dark still it didn't bother me as I got up walked about in the dark to get a drink then got back to my room to get some more sleep before my lecture. This film equals no effect on my sleeping pattern :)

horror and thriller films :)

alrighty then I have decided that I am now going to watch a horror or thriller film a day, so my research will start to widen research on this area, classics like the poltergeist the hammer collection and anything I can find on the cheap side and find scenes and ideas on my shoots so I will be updating all about the film I have watched once it has finished to either say how good or bad, scared or not scared about it the thoughts of the scenes the best parts, hopefully it wont effect me in anyway! (nightmares) :P hahaha  so there shall be another post tonight or tomorrow morning on the film I watched, just have to pick a film now :)

Daivd Moyle

I just found another photographer that I'm really interested by the looks of it this is one of his first shoots as I cant seem to find much more of this style of photographs on his website but did find him on Flick-r with the macabre style of photography. I really like the gory blood and darkness and I really want to start shooting in these styles but to get it the way he has it I would really need a warm day so the model wouldn't freeze to death :P
I love the attention to detail on these simple but really shocking I really want to get into the studio and do something like this, I will get into the studio this week and get my ass into gear to do this more important finding the model I will have to get searching to find someone that may be interested!
this is my goal this week to short out this kind of shoot I will do it!

1950s style photo shoot

the other day I was shooting for my other assignments and it was based on film and that we had to do a response, for my response I decided to do a fashion shoot of 1950s style clothing, makeup and hair do's :)
I'm really happy with the way they have turned out, there are a few things I would like to change but I am really happy with the way it has turned out, so when working with a makeup/hairstylist is really hard work as the process of waiting around got to me as I just wanted to start so it was a bit stressful since by 3pm I still had no image but once the images started to come in I was a bit more relaxed, until it was the second models turn to shoot and once again I was waiting about and the same thing happened with the 3rd I have know learnt my lesson that the makeup and hair need to be done before the shoot as I get to stressed out :p
here are the images and the layout to the lighting.

so here are my final image I do have loads more that I want to add more to them so when I edit them I will put them on my flick-r account and put up a link.

assisting on studio shoot with Sheryl and modelling for Chloe

today was well eventful went over to help in the studio with Sheryl for her shoot for a different assignment, it was interesting to see the way that she lighted the model Chloe, so today with the help of Darren we found out how to do a perfect black background :) which is always a great thing to learn as I have always had a grey kind of scale when using the black background.  then with Chloe's shoot she had be a model and we used a light reflector thing in front of my face which made my face go all crazy looking but to try and get the right light set up was a long lingering process as we went from the hunny comb and snoot but we kept getting a glare on the paper glass thing we had so we changed it for the soft box just right in front but once again that gave to much of a glare. so the third try we put up just one snoot and that looked better but still there was to much of a glare but we switched the light off to see if it was the glare coming off of the light from the top, so we had a few shots with the light off then they were abit better so we decided to call Darren for some help which was the best thing really because he told us that using a flash would be to hard and that we needed a constant light so we put 2 snoots on either side of my face and tried that but we had abit of a shadow in the middle of my face so we had a small light box on the front of my face but tilting down which came out with the best shots so soon as they go on her blog I will set up a link to it.

Ruven Afanador

okay so I found this photographer and I cant seem to find any information on him :S but anyway I really like his constructed images. his name is Ruven Afanador like I said I couldn't find anything about him as there wasn't any biography on him on the website :)

As you can see he is a very constructed images well thought out to the last detail.
here is the link to his website :) :http://www.art-dept.com/artists/afanador/

disney :)

alright we all know Disney and there fairy tales well Joshua Hoffine in his blog he talks about Disney and the way to look at some of the scenes and how some of the golden oldies  that are actually macabre scenes, and that walter was also into horror in a sense e.g. the baddies it reminds me of the original brothers grime tales which I'm going to try and find the books that I had when my dad made me read to him as a teenager so I would get into reading more which did help as now I love reading and because of the possible ways of making the text into memory to make an image. so here are a few of the video's what Joshua posted on the blog, when I saw them it was pretty amazing to actually see:

Joshua Hoffine

right so I'm getting really inspired in doing some work which involves using horror in photography and I have once again found another photographer :) so here we go this photographer as you will guest from the title is called Joshua Hoffine he is also another horror photographer really twisted and makes you look twice. there are a few images in where he uses children as a part of the image making it based on childhood horrors.
As you can see here the whole thrilling part of his images is seeing how shocking and the way things have been put together, I am also in the middle of reading his blog and the way he constructs the scene and puts everything together all the make up the making of the instillation.
Here is his link to his website and blog :)

Erwin Olaf

okay so last night was a bit of a bummer as half way my post my internet cuts off :( it becoming a real problem, so I am now in the library trying to get this done. So before i was rudely disconnected ff of the internet, I found a photographer that I really enjoy looking at found him last and just couldn't believe how twisted but so doll like his work is.
he was born in the neverlands in 1959, and currently lives and works in Amsterdam where his studio is in a former church hall. he started photography mixing both studio and documentary, he emerged his work in 1988 when his series 'chessmen' was awarded the first prize in the Young European Photographer competition.
his early work in documentary style black and white then gradually introduced color and then digital manipulation. his most famous exhibition being Royal Blood (2000): minimalist white-on-white portraits, depicting the vengeful nature of members of the aristocracy who have suffered unsavory deaths. this project has to be my favourite out of his portfolio but saying that the other stuff is amazing here are some of the images of the Royal Blood portfolio. I am going to carry on looking into more of his work and there may be more post and ideas :)

murder scenes idea

Alrighty I have just been reading a crime novel and in this book he really bring really elaborate's images to mind like in one of the scenes which is the one I would like to try and recreate different scenes from parts of the novel I think I would do it on location but at the same time the studio comes to mind as I could make the lighting nicer but with location there would be a proper drop back of a living room of some sort. Then carry on this as a project come up with different scenes read more murder mystery novels :P  I really like being able to read these and have like my mind bring them to life instead it is like its my own work as I was the one picturing it but someone else has thought the idea up. I'm going to start looking for some photographers that use crime scenes or macabre style of photography.

new idea!

okay well I'm feeling creative today 2 ideas and i havent had one in weeks ahaha. well this idea is working in a mansion in a ballroom which is lucky I know where to find one since there is one down the road from my dads house :P so what I wanted to do was have an empty ball room and have a model in the middle like she has come way to late by days but when she does finally get there she has been up for days her hair a mess and makeup all over her face

bathtub idea :)

right so I had this idea of getting a bathtub in the middle of somewhere grungy looking place or a really green grassed. with the bathtub full of beads and pearls and like little trinket things like that and have either a male or female in the tub with all of the buttons and stuff like they are having a bath in them in a really high fashioned edgy  looking make up and hair styles.

research and ideas blocked

okay so i haven't been posting up lately as I have a bit of imagination block >.< but hopefully by the end of the week I will have something to show or tell to you as I'm going to research in the library and see if anybody needs an assistant in the studio, I also really want to get back to the darkroom over the next month and doing some of the shoots that I have thought about also to see how they turn out :) so there will be more work going up yay!

2nd ribbon photoshoot

right my second ribbon photoshoot when Darren had mentioned that maybe I should change the idea and just use a body part to be honest I wasn't to happy but then as soon as he mentioned something about the arms an idea popped into my head I don't know why but I  had the classic image of carrie in her prom dress with the blood down her, I think to myself I definitely have been thinking in the wrong direction by making the first photoshoot to look like its meant to be beautiful, so I striped down my idea and started to re-think so I thought of what Darren had said and how just having a body part might make the image more shocking. So then I used the idea darren had given me with the arms but it wasn't what I was looking for so I thought back to the carrie idea and how simple they made her yet we knew something was going on, so I came up with putting all of the ribbons onto the models face to make it look like she is suffocating and she is trying to take the ribbons off so here is 2 of the images that I really like the first image is one I like but the second has to be my favourite.

Image one

I really like this image and the idea of her hand going for the ribbon but when I was looking over them less is more in this case and from my second image hopefully you can see why.

image 2

alright this is my final image and like I said I think less is more in the case I really like the fact we can only see her eye and all of her mouth is covered aswell I would like to have a few changes like have it all sharp and not any depth of field but im just really happy with the way it has turned as when I look at the first photoshoot I feel like it was really bland and this one just pops, and just in case anybody was wondering if I see a ribbon any time soon I might go nuts as I spent 12 hours putting all of these ribbons together.
